Medical Information

KiSS X is a MEDICAL DEVICE that by necessity is designed to effectively prevent sprains as well !

The KiSS Ankle system is a tape/brace hybrid medical device for the prevention and rehabilitation of lateral ankle sprains, and as such we may have directed the patient to you to consider prescribing the KiSS for rehabilitation and/or prevention of lateral ankle sprain. We support and train you, so that you and the patient can make an informed and educated decision together. Doctors evaluation and prescription of the KiSS system may also aid use in rehabilitation by allied professionals who may not have the Medical Authority to prescribe, and therefore 'stick' with current practices.

KiSS is the only ankle system designed with medical intent and an appreciation of 'optimal loading' of ligament, cartilage and bone, and the power of the body to repair under these conditions. Restriction of inversion, as a means of prevention and during rehabilitation, is not only illogical, but the evidence suggests may indeed be harmful.

So how does it work?

Acute ankle sprains - Kinematic intra-articular Support System or KiSS refers to how the KiSS X provides elastic tension to maintain the talus within the ankle mortis for extended periods of time, WITHOUT restricting the essential roles of the Subtalar STJ joint. Restricting the STJ ROM has been shown to compromise the integrity of the lateral ankle ligaments through compensatory rotary motion of the talus within the mortis, and is why restrictive taping or strapping and braces that restrict inversion should never be used on lax or injured ligaments. See KiSS Ankle paradigm.

Maintaining the integrity of the talocrural joint aligns damaged ligaments in a shortened position and prevents uneven medial loading of the medial talus known to cause Osteochondral Lesions OCL and progress PTAOA. It also addresses the causes or Biomechanics of Acute Ankle Pain, Ligament Stretch Pain LSP as the foot lifts and its weight stretches the damaged lateral ligaments and Point Loading Pain PLP where uneven medial talus loading caused by lateral laxity on weight bearing.

If you've had an ankle sprain you may remember there may be pain on the inside of your ankle underneath your inside ankle bone if you put weight on it? That's likely bruising or damage to the cartilage on the surface of the talocrural joint,

and each time your foot contacts the ground, unless you support the joint that's injured, that area of injured cartilage and bone loads unevenly when you put weight on it again, causing Point Loading Pain PLP (Left). And when the foot lifts, the outside ligaments stretch because of the weight of your foot and inertia, causing Ligament Stretch Pain LSP (Right). PLP of damaged talus cartilage on weight-bearing and LSP in the injured lateral ligaments when the foot comes off the ground.

Both are the only reason you can’t walk after an ankle sprain and KiSS as a principle or product can help you eliminate these primary sources of pain, or the Biomechanics of Ankle Pain, and patients start walking again. KiSS X address the causes of acute pain and creates confident safe mobility, innate stimulation of ligaments through safe protected exercise and we hope to prove, the first even natural repair of lateral ankle ligaments, with or without Orthobiologics.

Rehabilitation is essentially the same, except the restoration of confident weight bearing means these 'milestones' are met more quickly. You will notice the difference a KiSS makes to mobility within minutes of applying it to an acute sprain.

Treating the causes of acute ankle pain Point loading Pain and Ligament Stretch Pain with mild intra-articular support of the talocrural (tibiotalar) joint makes it all possible.
